Fortunately, if there's one really great thing that's happened in golf instruction tips in the last, maybe ten years, people aren't writing about it as much, people aren't talking about it as much, but it's still important.
It's, "What does the head do during the golf swing?"
Now, up until ten years ago, every time someone hit a shot and topped it, the golf instruction tip everybody would give was, "You lifted your head. You need to keep your head down."
Well, here's the great news. That wasn't always the case. It was sometimes, but not always the case.
But let me tell you what role the head plays because I have a golf instruction tip that is equally as important. You should not keep your head down throughout the entire swing. That would be just as wrong as if you were lifting your head up in the downswing.
So, there's a very fine combination of what the head should do. So, here we go.
As the golf club swings back, the head hasn't moved at all and your eyes are on the back of the golf ball. Now, in the downswing, as the arms unwind and the left hip starts to get out of the way, the golf club's going to swing to the bottom of the hip.
At that point, the speed of the right arm is going to start to pull you around.
So, the speed of the arms and hands are what pull you up and around. So, you can keep your head down as long as you like without forcing it down, and then the speed of the arms and hands coming past the golf ball turn you and pull you through.
So, here is the golf instruction tip again, keep your eye on the back of the ball, swing your arms up and down, and let the speed of the arms turn your head as you turn through.

- Golf - How To Make Your Short Game Shorter
By : Donald Saunders
As something like three quarters of all golf shots are made within 120 yards of the hole, your short game provides you with the opportunity to improve your score with less effort. One good technique for improving your short game, which is as much mental as physical, is to start from the hole and work backwards. Begin by getting your ball to the hole from just off the green and then move progressively backwards out to a distance of 100 to 120 yards.
The first thing you need to do of course is to select the right club. The more height you want on a shot, the more loft you will need on your club, so simply match the height and distance to our selection of club number. Remember though that on short shots you want the ball to stay out of the air as much as possible.
For short shots position your chest in front of the ball and shift the majority of your weight onto the balls of your feet. For higher shots move your chest farther back, even slightly behind the ball, and put slightly less weight onto the balls of your feet.
In general, power is not an issue in the short game and proper contact with the ball will do more to ensure accuracy and the correct distance than having a forceful swing. You need to concentrate therefore on getting the club face to connect squarely with the ball at its sweetspot. This is particularly important when using wedges, as the loft on the club can easily result in a hooked or sliced shot. Remember too that, in the short game, the handle of the golf club should always be in front of the face of the club at impact.
Try a few practice chips and pitches with the toe of your rear foot balanced on your front foot. This forces you to put your weight onto your front foot. Now, stand normally and hit a few more practice shots. At first this exercise might seem a little bit silly, but you'll be surprised at how well it helps to prevent you hanging back and lifting the ball into the air.
Remember too that if your head is behind the ball then your weight will also tend to be behind the ball. To prevent those fat chip shots you want to keep your weight to the front. Remember also that keeping the ball on the ground longer will increase your accuracy.
Now try taking a 7 or 8 iron and move your grip an inch or so below the position in which you would normally grip the club. Align your shoulders with the target line and open your stance slightly. Keeping your lower body still and allowing the arms and shoulders to do the work, take the club back about 18 inches and use a putting stroke allowing the club to follow through by about 18 inches after impact.
For a good chip shot you need to lean a little towards the target and make sure that your hands a set slightly ahead of the ball. Also, narrow your stance and flex your knees slightly. Your swing doesn't require a great deal of force and, if you impact the ball squarely on the sweet spot, you will also stop the ball from getting too much height.
With a little bit of practice you'll find that your short game can become very short and, once you've got it as short as possible, the next things to do is to shorten your putting game.

- Remote Controlled Golf Trolleys : A Boon For The Golfer
By : Christine Macguire
They say there is no game like golf. You go out with three friends, play eighteen holes, and return with three enemies. Well, golf is no longer simply a game of hitting the ball, finding it, and hitting it again. A lot of thinking and calculation goes into it. There is wind to be measured, the shots and the swings to be analyzed and perfected. The game of golf at a professional level requires a high degree of judgment and accuracy. With this increased competitiveness within the game, the requirement for equipment that performs better and allows the players to lessen the physical strain has increased. Electric golf trolleys have become a necessity in the list of accessories for golfers. Apart from avoiding the potential risk of injuries associated with carrying golf clubs, electric golf trolleys also provide an added comfort by helping the golfer to concentrate on the game itself.
To get an even greater advantage, these electric golf trolleys are also available in remote controlled versions. Remote controlled golf trolleys not only carry the clubs for you, but they are also easily maneuverable simply by using two remote controls. These trolleys are undoubtedly very advanced in terms of technology, and have become much more compact with built in features to assist the golfer while on the course. Remote controlled golf trolleys are currently one of the most compact electric trolleys available making it the ideal choice for golfers who are particularly concerned about space or weight.
A typical remote controlled golf trolley has some amazing features. With folded dimensions of just 840x580x340, you can easily fold it up and store it in the boot of your car. Remote controlled golf trolleys are usually lightweight and can withstand years of wear and tear. This compact and convenient machine is also very safe and reliable. But this alone is no longer enough. These radio transmitted devices also have to comply with the particular standards as applicable for different nations. They have to be thoroughly tested against a set of parameters before they can be placed on the market. These rules are very stringent in the European market, and the European Commission says the standards, which cover all kinds of wireless gadgets, will need to operate within the boundaries of specific slices of the airwaves, as specified by national licenses. They have to provide assurances that their products won't interfere with other wireless devices.
The new EU rules cover a large range of low-power short-range radio transmitters. These rules are applicable for the remote controlled golf trolleys as well. The CE marking of radio transmitters has to be based on relevant European Commission (EC) directives, primarily the Low Voltage Directive and the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive. The EMC approval procedure for radio transmitting equipment presently calls for certification by a notified body. The manufacturer of radio transmitters must also receive radio type approval by a national spectrum-management authority. European ETSI standards are being accepted more and more as an alternative to earlier national radio standards and to harmonize the standards throughout Europe.
The remote control parameters that must be controlled include assigned frequency range, frequency stability, modulation depth, sideband frequencies, adjacent channel power, and effective radiated power. Frequency error and radiation outside the assigned frequency band are measured to determine to what extent the transmitter may disturb other channels. Only a few companies have been able to meet all these standards for the remote controlled golf trolley.
Judging by their immense utility on the golf course, this is undoubtedly 'the age' of the electric golf trolley and more specifically the sleek, electrically powered remote controlled models. Remote controlled golf trolleys are the perfect solution to easing the burden of carrying the clubs down the fairways. So, the next time you walk down the course, make sure you have a remote in your palm instead of the heavy golf bag on your shoulders.

- How To Get The Basic Golf Swing Right!
By : Dean Caporella
I can remember the first time I ventured out onto a golf course and tried to hit the cover off the ball on the first tee. My memory of that inauspicious debut was a skewed shot which disappeared into the bushes to the right and became just another lost ball statistic. My basic golf swing technique for starters was crappy but more importantly, I didn't really understand the mechanics of the golf swing.
The end result of that very first game was a large triple figure score and about fifteen golf balls which never saw the light of day again. Oh, I can laugh about it now but if you want to know what epitomised embarrassment I'm here to tell you it was yours truly on that fateful day.
Can you as a novice draw similar comparisons? Well, if you haven't mastered the basic golf swing yet and you plan on improving your driving, chipping and putting then read the rest of this article.
Physics And The Basic Golf Swing
Before you can even think about using brute strength in you swing you need to understand golf isn't really a game about power. It's more timing and that's why it's a good idea to examine your clubs closely. Notice how each one is designed just a little differently than the other. The three iron has a more flatter blade than the nine iron. The three iron is designed for hitting the ball longer distances while the nine iron is designed for more up and under.
Getting into the habit of using the appropriate club for the appropriate play will get you forming good basic golf swing habits. It's a similar story with the driving woods. In most cases, you'll have a selection to choose from. I have four and my favorite is the fairway wood. It's designed to be used as the follow up to the tee shot on a long range hole and used correctly, is very effective in getting a clean, crisp shot away without forcing the shot with unnecessary power.
Golf Exercise
Believe it or not, one of the keys to maintaining a good basic golf swing is fitness, or being golf fit if you like. Identifying your golfing muscles is important and if you are not sure, ask an experienced golfer. No, it doesn't mean you need to spend five days in a gym building up to Mr. Universe levels. Simple golf stretch exercises; some involving use of a club and others just basic body stretches. You'll be surprised how effective muscle conditioning will help your basic golf swing movement.
Enlisting the services of a short term coach is a great way to learn the basic skills. It's like building a house; get the foundation right and you have something to build on. A coach will quickly pin point your problem areas and address them quickly. Ask at your favorite clubhouse the next time you're there.
The basic golf swing in many ways is like a player's "holy grail." Once it's mastered, you can then plan for bigger and better things, including the odd power drive off the tee!

- A Golf Instruction Video is Your Guide to Your Clubs
By : Dr. Richard Myers
If you are not familiar with the game of golf, that relaxing ball game played on rolling hills and everlasting green links, then the terms driver, putter, and wedge probably mean absolutely nothing to you. But if golf in any way interests you and you want to start learning how to get in on that weekend game, a golf
instruction video may be just the way to go.
A golf instruction video can guide you through the game rules, the playing techniques, and, of course, the equipment you will need. Before starting, though, you may just want to know what some of the basics are. The clubs, obviously, are what you use to hit the ball with, but many people unfamiliar with this game do not know that there are many different kinds of clubs, and each has a specific purpose. After all, the overall purpose of golf is to hit the ball into a hole in the ground, and the different designs of the clubs allow for you to develop a perfect golf swing for every instance.
The first club you will learn about, particularly if you purchase a golf instruction video, is the driver. The clubs come in varying lengths, and each is grouped into a different category, and then broken down further by a numbered system. The longest of the clubs is the category called woods, and the longest in that sub-category is called the driver. The reason for this is that the woods are designed with extra weight right on the head of the club, which gives that extra oomph to the swing, and allows the ball to go pretty far. Do a driver, then, which can also be called the number 1 wood, is typically the club used for sending the ball as far as possible.
Your golf instruction video will also explain what to use a wedge for. The wedge is a club that has a larger area to hit the ball with, and it is literally shaped lie a wedge. These are good for getting out of sand traps. Finally, the putter is the shortest club, and it has a completely flat face that allows the ball to go short and straight distances, right into the hole. A golf instruction video can cover all of this, and more.

- Discount Clone Golf Clubs - Save Your Money for the 19th Hole!
By Kevin T. Fairbanks
Golf is an expensive game. Buying name-brand golf clubs is expensive. Why not explore the option of discount clone golf clubs? They offer the same options of name-brand golf clubs, but cost much less. For the average to better more experienced golfer, discount clone golf clubs will work no diffrently than name-brand golf clubs.
Article:
Anyone who plays golf knows the sport is not at all cheap. With membership fees, golf green fee costs, golf shoes, golf clothes, golf clubs, golf carts and golf balls, even a minimalist wishing to play has to fork out a small fortune. With the availability of clone golf clubs, there is now an area where you can keep some money in your own pocket and still achieve the same results on the course.
It can be boring if you finish a great game of golf, but don't have any money left over for a beer or glass of wine at the end. You want to save money where you can for the social side of golfing. Instead of buying over priced brand name golf clubs, why not get clone golf clubs instead, and save money for a bit of fun with your golfing friends?
Clone golf clubs are not golf clubs made to OEM or original manufacturer standards as some people suspect. They are in fact clubs made to their own specifications and own use of modern technology. Clone golf clubs are made from quality materials and can also be custom designed for your specific and individual requirements.
Brand name golf clubs such as Callaway, Ping, Nike, Taylor Made or Titleist are very expensive and only golfers with money to burn can really afford to buy them. A famous pro golfer once said "The ball can't tell the brand", which is true and means people are only buying expensive, over-priced clubs to show off to their peers and advertise their wealth.
If you can't afford to buy your name-brand golf clubs with cash up front, maybe you are buying out of your league. You could get clone golf clubs that do the same job for half the price or less. Value does not mean low quality, it just means low prices for a product that performs just as well. The clone golf clubs have proven themselves to be reliable, long-lasting and made with quality design and modern technology.
Clone golf drivers are less expensive without compromising the quality or size of the club head. Whether your game is to try the new age square driver heads or you prefer the traditional shaped drivers, you will find a clone golf club that is similar to the name brand for considerably less money. The price you would expect to pay for a clone golf driver is around $70 - $100. The same goes for other clubs such as golf woods, golf hybrids, golf wedges and golf putters. The range of clone golf clubs is versatile and the clubs are stylish, new age and high quality.
You will always play golf with a smile on your face when you know you haven't had to pay a fortune for your clubs. Within reason, if the clubs you are using are the right specifications for your size, once you are used to using them, you can master how to play with them. It doesn't matter if you spend $70 or $700, this is still the case. Next time you need a new club or set of clubs, choose clone golf clubs – you won't be getting second best, you will just be paying less!

- Were Golf Tournaments Invented So That You Could Safely Beat the Pants off Your Boss ?
By : Syd Nohcud
You may have wondered if your golfing predecessor existed. Was there such a person who also thought up the concept of a golf tournament for an easy day off and a chance to beat the pants off your superior?
How did golf tournaments come about / what is their history? In 1860 eight professionals competed in a golf tournament at Prestwick in Scotland playing three 12-hole rounds of golf for the prize of a red leather belt. The idea for the prize was derived from medieval knights' tournaments, and any player who could win this golfing tournament three years running would gain permanent possession of the belt. This event was eventually won by Willie Park and this served as the forerunner of the now famous British Open Golf Championship.
The early years of the championship was dominated by one ruffian named "Old Tom Morris" and his son appropriately named "Young Tom Morris". Tom Morris Senior was one of the most prominent figureheads in the early development of the golfing sport. Mr. Morris Senior was well known as a golfing ball and club maker at the Prestwick and St. Andrews golfing centers. And as well later became influential in golf course architecture. As well Mr. Morris Sr. went on as an expert golfer to win the British Open championships in consecutively in 1861, 1862 and 1864.
The younger son Tom Morris was even more a more skillful and polished golfer winning the four British Opens unbelievably winning three tourneys in a row from 1868 to 1870 and thus claiming possession of the coveted red belt. Three years later the Claret Jug was introduced as the Open prize, and it remains so today.
Thus the Morris clan dominated the historic golf tournament site early on, but the Open Championship and British golf was yet to be surprised. The trio of the Great Triumvirate of Harry Vardon , John Henry Taylor and James Braid unbelievably won 16 golf tournament titles in the time period between 1894 and 1914 and even played second a combined total of 12 times.
Of the three players of the group Mr. Vardon had the most significant and long standing impact on the golfing scene and game beyond his great competitive spirit. Vardon's exhibition tours – both at home in the Isles and abroad introduced golf and the golfing sport to millions of people who otherwise would have had no interest or introduction to the passion of golf. In a marker of merchandising and marketing trends to come Vardon even introduced his own line of the then currently used gutty golf balls called the "Vardon Flyer. Mr. Vardon can be appropriately credited as the first golf professional golfer to endorse commercial products. Shades of things to more than come.

Eventually Vardon conducted an extended tour in the U.S. in 1900 to promote the new ball and used the occasion to enter and play in the U.S. Open which he handily won at the Wheaton Golf Club located in Illinois. To show the British emphasis of the British golfing trio Mr. Vardon cleared two strokes ahead of his colleague in crime John Henry Taylor. Mr. Vardon and Taylor provided the distant early championship's start. They provided instant interest and credibility. Much interest was created by Vardon being the creator of the famous and established Vardon golf grip. You may not have realized that this overlapping golf grip may well be a standard that you are employing without knowing or appreciating its historic origins.
In the end it all comes down to the quest of human competitiveness friendly or otherwise as a means to improve ones golf game or ego that resulted in our current passion for golf tournaments and events. Then again golfing tournaments may of begun as a way to justify time off of employment duties or to beat the pants off of one's superior without too much apparent risk.

- To Insure Consistency and Success - Play with a Straight Back
By : David Nevogt
I believe that to mature as a golfer, you need to have an understanding of why certain individual fundamentals on the course are working for you, and why others aren't. In short, you have to understand the working components of your swing. Secondly, you need to understand what corrections or adjustments could be made in order to attain success.
The set-up that we teach is very specific and important. Playing with a straight spine and back angle is an important fundamental that we teach, and something that is literally the glue of our swing theory. Whether you are 5 yards form the green or teeing off, playing with a straight spine and back will ensure that you swing on a consistent plane every time you set over the golf ball.
The following are reasons why a straight back is essential for you to see success out on the course:
- Gives you a fixed position to start from - every time
- Allows for the club to travel on a consistent plane
- This is essential in golf. If you are hunched over (golfers that
are hunched over at the ball usually are not aware) your swing
plane is consistently changing due the level that your body is over
the ball. This leads to many inconsistent shots (Especially from around the green).
- Minimizes hitting behind the ball or hitting the ball thin
This is a big problem for most golfers. If you haven't played for weeks and you find yourself not making solid contact, the 1st fundamental that should go through your mind is: "Is my back straight at set-up and throughout the shot"?
In my mind this is one of the most important truths that we teach about the golf swing. If you look at the tour pros they always have a straight spine angle and back at set-up and throughout their swing. Whether you are on the tee, fairway, around the green, or even on the green - having a straight spine and back angle is extremely important. Having a straight back and spine angle is especially important from around the green when pitching and chipping!
For some golfers, straightening your spine angle is going to feel very strange, because you've never played that way. But trust me, maintaining a straight spine throughout the swing will do wonders for your consistency. It also leads to better impact with the ball. Next time you watch the tour players on TV, make sure to check out how straight their back is at setup.
The main point that I want to communicate is that there are many factors in golf that you can't control. For example: course conditions, weather, and course difficulty. However, one aspect of your golf swing that can be constant and unchanging is your spine angle at set-up. So play golf this way and you will begin to develop consistency and confidence.

- Why This Target Technique Will Give You A Better Golf Swing!
By Dean Caporella
Achieving a better golf swing takes practice coupled with good technique. That sounds pretty simple doesn't it? Trouble with most social golfers who aspire to a better game is by the time they get around to learning some golfing technique, they've reached a stage where they have consigned themselves to immortal mediocrity!
Are you in this category or are you just interested in achieving a better golf swing? Believe me I was in the former category at one stage and I know how most non-professional players are thinking. But do you know it didn't really take much coaching to swing my game around quickly and in the end, not only did I achieve a better golf swing but I saved myself walking an extra five miles around a golf course!
Better Golf Swing Techniques
A better golf swing is achieved through habit forming. What I mean by this is by committing the action of the swing to thought, continual practice of the technique will eventually be committed to memory and you'll find in time, your natural instinct will be to swing the club the correct way without thinking about the shot too much. When you're on the course during a game however, your thought process should shift more on where you intend landing the ball.
One of the problems with most inexperienced golfers is they think too much about their swing. Standing over the ball and wondering whether you are going to swing the club correctly for too long a time will only delay the inevitable. A skewed shot, left or right or even worse, completely missing the ball. Embarassing!
Target Technique
A technique taught to me which had a profound effect in my achieveing a better golf swing was choosing a spot down the fairway where I wanted to land the ball and then trying to land as close to that spot as possible. I had to train my mind away from how I was going to swing the club and to say it wasn't easy is an understatement. Eventually, after many hours of practice, I began to think more of where the ball was going to be hit than my swing technique and the transformation was enormous.
The aim of this technique was to get me concentrating more on the projection of the ball; in other words, it got me thinking ahead and took my thought away from my swing. Sometimes a golfer can try too hard and forget to relax. This method will teach you how to relax more instead of gripping the club handle too tightly wondering whether you will get enough backlift on your swing or whether the club head will connect with the ball cleanly.
It won't happen overnight with this method however, with plenty of practice, a better golf swing should be the end result.

- Driver Ball Position
By : Bobby Eldridge
PurePoint Golf Instruction – Driver Ball Position – Driver Golf Swing
often see a number of amateurs prepare for their driver golf swing by walking up, after they have teed the ball up, they just take a step back and they address it. They grip the golf club and they address it, and they sort of just plot their feet down wherever they land, but let me tell you the proper way.
This way you'll be able to get the ball in the correct position more often than not. After you have the golf ball and you've gripped it and you have addressed it, then you'll just look down, take a peek down, and if this golf ball is running towards the left heel, then this is correct.
If you look down and you see the golf ball is a little too far forward off your left, that's too far forward and you'll probably see that the shoulders are aimed too far to the left.
On the other hand, if you look back down and you think the ball is too far back in your stance when you put this shaft along you, you'll be aiming way off to the right.
So, after you've addressed the golf ball, all you have to do to get ready for your driver golf swing is bring the shaft up and lay it along your shoulder line, and it should be going in the direction you want to go with it.
If you get it too far back in your stance at address, you'll wind up aiming your shoulders too far off to the right.
And if you get it off the left heel, this should be proper for most people.
Give that a try the next time out.
Bobby Eldridge is the Head Instructor for the PurePoint Golf Academy where he teaches "The Simple Golf Swing" theory. You can check out PurePoint Golf instructional DVDs at http://www.golfswingguru.com/index15.htm
